The 2010 state CIO survey by NASCIO , Grant Thornton and Tech America shows growing interest in emerging technologies. Emerging technologies are adding value to public service, increasing efficiencies and lowering operation costs.
State CIOs and cloud computing
- 50% are investing in cloud computing
- 33% are running active or pilot cloud projects
State CIOs and social media
- 66% use social media (YouTube, Twitter, Facebook)
Emerging technology ranking
When asked to rate the emerging technologies they assigned the value as follows (highest ranking listed first):
- Cloud computing
- Green IT
- Social media
State CIOs and green technology
- 46% have policies that mandate green IT
- 92% view green technology as a way to save money on electricity
