[July 30, 2018 – Monday] In the last couple of years, BasicGov has experienced steady growth and as a result, hired five co-op students to fill various roles across the company in areas such as Sales, Marketing, Quality Assurance, and Development. With the BC Tech Co-op Grants program from Innovate BC, funding for students has been made these hirings easier.
Innovate BC recently spoke with Jennifer Thompson, Senior Manager of Marketing and Proposals, to get her experience with the BC Tech Co-op Grants program and her thoughts on working with co-op students.
“It has been an incredible experience working with co-op students especially with their energy, eagerness to learn, and desire to demonstrate success”.
Jennifer Thompson, Senior Manager of Marketing and Proposals at BasicGov Systems, Inc.
As a manager, Jennifer also “tries to provide opportunities for our co-op student to present to senior and executive management so that they can work on their soft skills in a real working environment”. To encourage BasicGov co-op students to learn the most out of their co-op experience, “my goal is to be able to give our co-op student a few key projects to add to their portfolio, such as website transformation, develop a brand strategy, launch a webinar series, and so on.”

Empowering Governments to Efficiently Serve
At BasicGov, our purpose and core values guide our product innovation and dedication to deliver excellence. Starting in 1985, our former parent company (Municipal Solutions Group) was founded by government employees who believed that permitting and licensing could be automated through software. What began as an on-premise solution that grew to supporting over 300 customers we realized the potential in ‘cloud technology.’ By the early 2000s, we created the only permitting and licensing solution to be hosted on the Force.com platform from Salesforce , the World’s Most Innovative Company*. In 2006, we were split from our parent company and BasicGov became a stand alone entity that still offers a cloud-based COTS solution with modules for Licensing, Inspections, Planning, Permitting, Code Enforcement, Fund Accounting, and Payment/Billing Management on the Salesforce cloud platform.
